our SelseyToday we have written to all the major parties participating in the European Elections, asking them to tell us their views on a number of EC-related issues that affect coast defence policy, and which we find objectionable. These include:
Flooding farmland to create salt marshes, when there is no right to compensation for the homes and businesses being destroyed
Preventing people from protecting their own homes against coastal erosion, if they live near cliffs that are “geologically interesting”.
Our letter, which includes a full explanation of the issues that concern us, is here for you to view. As and when we get replies from the political parties, we will post them on the website. We don’t intend commenting on these replies during the election period – they will be posted as part of our public information remit, so you can see what the parties are saying about these issues before voting day.
